England Captain?

Postby thumbs » Sun Jan 13 2008, 20:42

With the new discipline that i suspect our man Fabulous Cappello will install into the new set up the question i pose is ;
Do you think J Terry is the right man to lead England ?

Given his nght club antics by urinating on the dance floor on a boozy night out days before a crutial qualifier at home to Croatia in which he sat on the subs bench for the entire game then 3 days later played the whole 90 mins for his club. I wanted our captain falling out big time with Maclaren demanding that he must play!
Of course we dont know he didnt and that Maclaren still chose to opt not to play him , but there has been no rumblings of such and the whole thing seems to have passed on quietly, but with no contact at all been made between Cappello and Terry so far i wonder if he will remain the man with the armband.
This is not an anti Chelsea thing (got nothing to do with having a dig at Chelsea) , but i for one would rather our England captain was given to some else who would respect for the job.

Its a pity Becks is at the twilight of his career!

Difficult call Jim, JT is very much a proven leader... as is Gerrard, but beyond that what suggestions would you have?

Beckham was not captain of his club and never has been a permanent club captain so i dont feel whoever it is has to have captained their club.

Rio Ferdinand should be captain - he is by far Englands best defender this season. John Terry will struggle to get in against Switzerland on the basis he hasnt played for nearly 2 months. Ledley King and Rio Ferdinand should be the centre halfs - King is excellent and I hope he's over his injury knightmare.

On saying that I think Gerrard will be made Captain by Capello with Rio as vice captain.

funny u say that fingers, cos having a chat with a man utd fan yesterday, i said exactly the same thing.

against arsenal i thought king was fantastic, his pace is ridiculous, and he rarely looked like he coulnt cover anything arsenal threw at him!

rio as captain, king starting as his partner. if JT rekindles his form then he should be back in there, he has had 2 poor years.

A toss up between a bloke who urinates on the dance floor and another who cant remember to turn up to an important drugs test............. Dont it make you proud

On a serious note i would stick with JT, Just think "on the pitch" he is a born leader but off it obviously needs to work on it.

dont think it matters a great deal what your like off it, as long as your not a yardie or a drug dealer, tony adams was a great captain, and his social life was well.... colourful!!!

Yes " Donkey Adams" was a great captain for Arsenal on the pitch but times move on and every move thats made by a so called England star gets picked up in the public eye , Urinating on the dance floor is something only Dirty , Dissrespectful , Animals do and not the kind of thing Capello is looking for in our England captain.
That said i believe he will start everyone from a clean slate and its what happens under his reign what counts.

I think JT is still the right man to lead England, he wants to play for England, which is more than can be said for other members of the team.
