Southern Combination League - Premiership

An intriguing encounter forced one to visit East Court where temporary tenants and new boys Lingfield were entertaining promotion seekers Horsham YM, extra bonus being that YM would be visiting CDG at the Haven this coming Saturday, a big gate was in attendance, with YM probably pleased not to be visiting the Lair and its shall we say 'unique' surroundings.

As for the game, a brilliant start for the Lingers whose short neat passing game had YM struggling to contain same, whilst their own direct play was easily stifled.

On 15 it was the Lingers who bought the crowd to its feet, when from a deep cross out right the ball was only partially cleared as far as Conor Wilford standing at least 40 yds away, who then swung a boot and crashed the ball home, temporary silence, then all hell was let loose as Wilford in true Premiership style slid on his knees to the bench followed by his teammates, sure the ref was tempted as well, must have been at least 10 mins before 'normal service' was resumed, brilliant scenes indeed and all this for a £5!

Half time came and went with both sides raising their game, with TJ Stead for Lingers continually stretching the YM left flank with his speed, come 66 and it was party time again for the homesters, with Dave Heaton awarded and delivering a penalty 2-0 Lingers, was it all over we wondered, but no from the wings she appeared and we all know the outcome, yes three YM goals from messrs, Dave Brown 2, and Alex Barbary in the dying minutes. OK the Lingers just missed out, but we've just seen a cracking game plus a contender for goal of the season, even at our level these things do happen!
