NOT A GOOD DAY

NOT A GOOD DAY

On a bleak wet afternoon of cancellations elsewhere, the Anvils might well have 'rued' being just one of the few matches being played, as the homesters on a fine three match / clean sheet winning run, plus a giddy sixth place position landed rather heavily on 'terra firma' in this encounter, first half was pretty tight with just a Michael Wood thunderbolt separating the sides at halftime, and with the Anvils attacking the Kop in the second half what possibly could go wrong.

In the proverbial 'nutshell' everything, as with more storm clouds gathering above, similar was happening on 'firma' below, as the visitors started to take over the running, not so much from their own prowess, but more from the Anvils completely losing the plot and allowing the visitors back into the game, main trouble seemed to be in midfield where the engine room never really got firing, thereby negating the job of feeding the front runners with the usual short passing game, but instead we had the 'big boot' which in the conditions had the ball just spurting away, all this against a now grumbling home support, as the frustrations off the pitch rapidly spread onto the pitch, with the visitors taking advantage of the situation with Matt Daniels helping
himself to a double and the team three welcome points.

Final note, congrats to the Groundsman / Secretary / Retriever of lost balls, on producing a fantastic playing surface, and to us all here 'escaping' the Xmas shop ( well for a while! ) Gate :- 61
