Hastings United v Haywards Heath Town

Postby fanbase » Sun Mar 03 2019, 10:49

Fourth place Haywards Heath Town visited third place Hastings United in the Bostik League South East Division. The Heath arrived on the back of one defeat in their last eight games, the defeat being to Burgess Hill In the Senior Cup semi final, but several injuries and unavailability meant that they were not at full strength. The first 30 minutes were mainly dominated by Hastings but it was the Heath who scored first through Callum Saunders. The lead only lasted 1 minute when Hastings equalised. The Heath got a second in the 49th minute through a fantastic free kick from Alex Laing only to see Hastings level again a minute later. The second half was fairly equal and with the game looking to end as a draw, Melford Simpson popped up in the 86th minute to give the Heath the lead for a 3rd time. With only a couple of minutes left, a breakaway saw Trevor McCreadie round the keeper, who spent most of the game outside his area joining in the play, and slide the ball into the net to give the Heath the double over their hosts and move them up to 3rd place in the league.
